Insurance

Benefit Paid By When Eligible

Health Insurance

UND pays the full premium for single or family coverage.

Employees can choose from the PPO/Basic or High Deductible plans. Coverage includes medical, hospital and prescription drug coverage.

1st day of the month following month of employment

Life & Disability Insurance

UND provides $12,000.00 in term life insurance (NDPERS) and $5,000 (UND Life). You may purchase additional term life insurance for yourself, spouse and dependents.

UND pays disability insurance based on medical documentation, employees may be approved for long-term disability up to 60-70% of final average salary if unable to perform job duties because of long term illness or accident.

Employee through payroll deduction.

Flexible Spending

UND pays administrative costs. Optional benefit that allows employee to pay for medical and/or dependent care expenses with tax-free dollars.

Retirement

Retirement

Dependent on your position, you will receive the NDPERS or TIAA retirement plan.

NDPERS plan contributions (job codes beginning with 4 or higher):

  • Employee: 3%
  • UND: 13.26%

TIAA plan contributions (job code beginning with 3 and under):

  • 0-2 years of service
    • Employee: 3.5%
    • UND: 7.5
  • 3-10 years of service
    • Employee: 4.5%
    • UND: 12.5%
  • 10+ years of service
    • Employee: 5.0%
    • UND: 13%

Associate and full professors start at 3-10 rate. Additional supplemental (employee paid) retirement plans are also available.

Leave

Annual, sick, holiday, funeral, military and jury duty leave is available and paid by UND.
